To the Northumberland County Public Schools Community: Teachers, Staff, Students, and Families,

We are thrilled to share some outstanding news with you all. We have received official notification that every school within Northumberland County Public Schools has achieved Full Accreditation for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year.

This significant designation from the Virginia Department of Education is not just a badge of honor; it is a validation of the hard work happening in our classrooms every single day. Full accreditation signifies that our schools meet or exceed rigorous state standards for academic achievement, achievement gaps, student attendance, graduation rates, and more.

This success does not happen in isolation. It is the direct result of:

Our Amazing Teachers and Staff: Your dedication to our students, your expertise in instruction, and your commitment to continuous improvement drive our success. Thank you for the tireless effort you pour into your work.

Our Determined Students: You showed up, worked hard, and rose to the challenges placed before you. We are incredibly proud of your growth.

Our Supportive Families: Your partnership in your child’s education is invaluable. Thank you for trusting us and collaborating with us to ensure student success.

This is a tremendous community achievement, and we should all take a moment to feel proud of the direction our division is heading.

For those interested in reviewing detailed data and learning more about the specific metrics used for accreditation, we encourage you to review the Virginia Department of Education’s School Quality Profiles at: https://schoolquality.virginia.gov/

Northumberland High School's Aquaculture class visited Omega Protein in Reedville on Tuesday. There, they learned about our local menhaden industry, which dates back to 1878 and is now the largest employer on the Northern Neck. Students toured the menhaden meal warehouse and the oil refining plant. Omega Protein has donated meal and oil to the class for tilapia feed experiments

❄️⛄ SNOW DAY ANNOUNCEMENT! ⛄❄️

Well folks, the weather has decided to throw a surprise party—and nobody invited the buses.
Starting around 1 PM, snow is planning to pile up faster than homework on a Monday, making the roads too slippery and unsafe for our buses to keep rolling.

So we’re calling it: Northumberland County Public Schools and Offices will be closed today.

Please stay home and build a snowman, practice your Olympic-level hot-chocolate making skills, or simply enjoy not slipping on the sidewalk.

Stay warm, stay safe, and we’ll see all your smiling (and hopefully not frostbitten) faces tomorrow! ❄️😊

On Monday, Northumberland High School Aquaculture students went to the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS, Gloucester Point) to learn about "all-things-oysters". They visited the Acuff Center to learn about spawning oysters and feeding the resulting larvae with algae until large enough to "strike" on substrate. They are then transferred to small tanks called "upwellers" until they are moved to the river to grow into adults. Finally, they are sorted and shucked for dinner!

Students also visited the VIMS Histology Lab, where they learned about oyster diseases.

On Wednesday, students from NHS's Aquaculture class traveled to Virginia State University's Randolph Farm to tour the aquaculture program. There, they visited grow-out ponds for catfish and striped bass, where several students were invited to feed them. Students toured the aquaculture barn where juvenile striped bass are being grown to the pond transfer size, then on to the aquaponics greenhouse where tilapia are grown to provide nutrients for raising plants such as tomatoes, lettuce, and ginger. NHS's Aquaculture class is very hands-on and experiential, with more field trips to come
