Good afternoon NCPS Families,

With the threat of impending weather this weekend, we want to inform you of our plan!

IF we are out on Monday, February 23rd, this would be used as a traditional snow day.
IF we are out additional days, these will be remote learning days and students will complete the work that is being sent home today from their teachers.

While we are planning ahead, we will communicate further IF any closures or delays will be needed. Thank you!

Behind the scenes in the Robotics Lab! 💻🥦

Can you teach a computer to tell the difference between a red delicious apple and a tomato? Our students are finding out!

Using AI imaging programs, the class is capturing high-volume photo data to help their laptops "learn" to identify various types of produce. It’s a hands-on look at how machine learning solves real-world problems—like making sure your grocery scanner never misses a beat.

Gravity: 0. Physics Students: 1. 🥚🚀

Huge congratulations to the brilliant minds who cracked the code (but not their eggs!) at this year’s Annual Physics Egg Drop Competition!

Surviving a 3-meter drop is a feat of engineering, but our winners took it to the next level by walking away unscathed from the 5-meter "Plunge of Doom."

Waylon Hymes and Landon Shirilla, Amiya Lee and Ajah Scott! Congratulations on beating out five other teams!

2 hr delay
Northumberland County Public Schools will operate on a two-hour delay on Tuesday, February 3, 2026.

The "Slow & Steady" Approach: Roads are still a bit "sketchy," so take your time. No need to audition for Fast & Furious:

Safety First: We’re letting the sun do the heavy lifting before we head out.

Buses and bells will be exactly two hours behind their normal schedule. See you (slightly later) tomorrow!

Delay
For the safety of our students and staff, Northumberland County Public Schools will be closed Monday, February 2, 2026. There are still too many slick spots on roads, parking lots, and sidewalks. This is a traditional snow day, remote learning is not required.

Frank the Cat has a message for our Northumberland County Public Schools family.

"I’ve been watching the ice from my favorite windowsill, and it still looks a bit too slippery for our buses and paws. Because of those icy conditions, schools will remain closed this Friday, January 30."

"We’re going to curl up, stay cozy, and try this again on Monday! Please stay safe, stay warm, and maybe find a nice sunny spot for a nap. See you soon!"

Meow there, neighbors!

This is Frank the Cat calling with some important (and potentially cozy) news.

Since the roads are still looking more like a skating rink than a street, Northumberland County Public Schools will remain closed tomorrow, Thursday, January 29. It’s just too icy out there for buses, cars, and even four-wheel-drive paws.

"Hello, Northumberland families!

They say three is a magic number, and tomorrow, Wednesday, January 28, marks our third day of staying cozy at home! Because those icy roads are still acting a bit chilly, our school buildings will remain closed.

However, the learning doesn't stop! Tomorrow will be a home learning day, so grab your laptops and/or packets, a warm blanket, and your favorite snacks.

Stay safe, stay studious, and let’s make 'Day Three' the best one yet.

Stay warm, Indians!"

Schools Closed
Meow there, families! This is Frank the Cat calling from Northumberland County Public Schools.

I’ve checked the weather, and it’s much too slippery for paws or buses! Because of the ice and continued freezing temperatures, all schools will be closed tomorrow, Tuesday, January 27.

Since it’s chilly outside, it’s a perfect day to stay in your pajamas and work on some at-home learning at your own pace. Make sure to save plenty of time for hot cocoa and snuggles!

Stay safe and stay cozy, Northumberland!

❄️ SNOW DAY ALERT: MESSAGE FROM FRANK ❄️

Attention Students, Staff, and Families,

It’s official: Mother Nature has turned the world into a giant, fluffy litter box, and it is simply too deep for tiny human feet. Therefore, Northumberland County Public Schools are officially CLOSED for Monday, January 26!

While you all are busy sleeping in or hunting for "cocoa," please be advised that I am still on the clock. I am currently stationed at the window—and occasionally the back porch—conducting rigorous Snow Accumulation Assessments.
Frank’s Current Field Report:

• Visual Inspection: Everything is very white.

• Depth Measurement: The snow is currently "three belly-floops" deep.

• Safety Status: I stepped in it once. It was cold. I have retreated to the radiator to process the data.

• Forecast: High probability of bird-watching and extended napping.

Please stay safe and warm, and get in some cat naps!

💪 More Than Just Marching: Fitness & Leadership at Northumberland High School JROTC

Did you know that the Army JROTC program at Northumberland High School is about building better citizens and stronger bodies?

At NHS, we believe physical fitness is the foundation of mental toughness. When our cadets train, they aren't just doing push-ups; they are learning self-discipline, teamwork, and resilience.

Why Fitness Matters in JROTC:
✅ Mental Grit: Pushing through physical challenges teaches cadets they can overcome obstacles in the classroom and in life.
✅ Readiness: From the Cadet Challenge to the Raider competitions, being "fit to lead" is a core standard.
✅ Health for Life: We instill habits that keep our future leaders healthy long after graduation.

Whether it’s tackling the obstacle course or striving for a personal best on the mile run, our cadets are putting in the work.

Community Update: High School Leadership Transition

Dear Families, Staff, and Community Members,

We are pleased to announce that Mrs. Ashton will serve as the Acting High School Principal for the remainder of this school year. This follows the former principal’s move to a leadership role at the division level, where he will continue to support our strategic goals in a new capacity. We met with our affected staff and students yesterday afternoon and this morning to discuss these changes.

Mrs. Ashton will continue to serve as our Assistant Superintendent while leading the high school. As an integral member of our senior leadership team, her dual role ensures the school has direct, expert support during this transition. Her deep experience will provide stability and maintain our focus on student success through the end of the term.

We are confident in Mrs. Ashton’s leadership and remain committed to a productive and positive environment for all student
