Stepping Up to the Challenge: Seven Cadets Conquer JROTC Cadet Leadership Challenge Summer Camp 26’
Seven courageous JROTC cadets arrived at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia, facing their biggest fear—staying away from home for the very first time—yet they immediately proved their resilience. Overcoming that separation anxiety, they simultaneously plunged into the camp's physical challenges, conquering the intimidating rappel tower, masterfully negotiating complex obstacle courses, and sharpening their skills in archery and marksmanship training. Their mental fortitude was equally tested as they shifted from field training to the classroom, tackling critical-thinking STEM scenarios and navigating the high-pressure Leadership Reaction Course. Having met every rigorous milestone and proven they could "Step Up to the Challenge," the cadets proudly gathered for this final portrait, each holding well-earned Certificates of Participation that signify a week of immense personal growth and triumphant achievement.

Last week, the Indian Spirits Dance Team attended the Universal Dance Association's dance camp at James Madison University. During the four days there, the girls learned two routines each and participated in multiple technique classes. At the end of camp, the team was awarded a superior trophy for their final evaluations, multiple "pin it forward' pins from the UDA staff and were voted on as the "Most Improved" team, also resulting in a trophy. Hannah and I are very proud of the girls and we are excited to showcase some of the routines we learned this school year!

The Zoology class enjoyed wrapping up their semester with a visit to the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk, VA.
Our 2026 Physics class and their custom Net-Zero House Models. These students have calculated the heat-loss rates of their designs and sized the appropriate HVAC systems. They have calculated the electrical loads required for comfortable living and the solar panels needed to supply those loads. Real-life learning, learning for life.

What an incredible evening for the Northumberland Middle/High School JROTC program!
The JROTC just wrapped up their annual awards ceremony, and "proud" doesn't even begin to cover it. It was truly inspiring to see our cadets recognized for their discipline, leadership, and hard work throughout the year. From academic excellence to superior physical fitness and community service, these students are proving that the future is in very capable hands.
To our cadets: Your uniforms looked sharp, but your character shone even brighter. Whether you took home a medal today or supported your fellow cadets from the ranks, your commitment to excellence is what makes this program great.

Mr. Dickens' Chemistry class has been researching the nutrients used to make pet and fish food. Then, using local ingredients sourced from Omega Protein, Bay's Best Feed, and the VanLandingham Farm, they made tilapia food for Northumberland's Aquaculture program!
Chemistry students ground and sifted the grains, carefully measured and mixed the ingredients, cooked, pelletized, and dried the mash. Finally, the tilapia got to try the homemade food! Next year's Aquaculture and Chemistry classes will continue the project, which stresses the importance of using the abundant feedstocks right in our backyard!
