Superintendent's update

Congratulations to Director of Special Education & Student Support Services Mrs. Jessica Rogers!

On February 12, 2024, the Northumberland County School Board approved Mrs. Jessica Rogers as the Director of Special Education and Support Services. Mrs. Rogers is a Northumberland alumni and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science and Communication Studies from Virginia Tech. (Go Hokies!)


She also earned a Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Education and an endorsement in Special Education General Curriculum K-12 from Old Dominion University.  Mrs. Rogers has worked in the field of education for almost twenty years, beginning her teaching career as a Early Childhood Special Education Teacher for Lancaster County Public Schools for nine years.  


Mrs. Rogers worked closely with the Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) Autism Center of Excellence to help establish a social skills club for students with autism.  Mrs. Rogers also completed the Virginia Department of Education’s Academy for Aspiring Special Education Leaders.  


Mrs. Rogers has been teaching in Northumberland County Public Schools for the past ten years and has worked in both self-contained and inclusion settings.  She was the VTSS/PBIS Coordinator for NES for three years and is the current Child Study Chair for both Northumberland Elementary and Middle School. 


Rogers is married with two children.  Her husband, Ryan, and oldest child Bowe graduated from Northumberland, and her youngest son Cason is currently a Sophomore at NHS.  Congratulations, Mrs. Rogers!
