NES First Grade welcomed the Chesapeake Bay Garden Club into their classrooms to learn about pumpkins! Mrs. Wilson’s class had fun reading a story, playing a plant part game, and diving in to scoop out the seeds for planting later in the Spring. The students always look forward to their visit!

The ninth annual Crunch Heard ’Round the Commonwealth will take place during Virginia Farm to School Week on Thursday, October 9, 2025. Across the Commonwealth, Virginians will make some noise for farm to school programs by taking a bite out of a fresh, Virginia grown apple on the same day. Here at NES we will be Celebrating by making our Crunch Heard.
This is a friendly reminder that schools will be closed for Fall Break, Oct. 10-13. Classes will resume on Tuesday, Oct. 14th. The End of Quarter 1 is October 9th; report cards will be issued on October 20th. We hope you take time to rest, relax, and enjoy time with your friends and family.
The Northumberland Department of Social Services will be hosting our Annual Community Resource Fair, Spooky Edition, on Saturday, October 25, 2025, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Northumberland Family YMCA. This resource fair is intended to connect families to their local community agencies.
