Course Overview

PHYSICAL EDUCATION: The purpose of physical education in the school program is to provide opportunities for the normal physical growth and development of all students.  It is that phase of the curriculum dealing chiefly with large muscle activities, which, if varied and challenging, provide many physically wholesome, mentally stimulating, and socially satisfying learning experiences.  These in turn contribute to the physical, mental, social, moral, and emotional growth and development of all students and, therefore, to the goals of education.  The program utilizes games, sports, rhythmic activities and other vigorous activities to achieve these goals.

HEALTH EDUCATION:  Is that phase of education concerned with the teaching of skills and knowledge.  It provides each student with several opportunities to appreciate the value of achieve and maintain a state of well-being.  Special attention is given to Driver Education to students in the tenth grade.

TARDY POLICY 

Tardiness to the Health class or Physical Education squad is unacceptable except when excused by a Teacher or an Administrator.

 NOTIFICATION PROCEDURE FOR UNEXCUSED TARDIES:

PHYSICAL EDUCATION

   3 mins. – To dress in physical education uniform.

  1 min. – Check Attendance.

  8 mins. – Stretching and Conditioning Exercises.

35 mins. – Instruction and Participation in activities.

11 mins. – Showering and Dressing.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS (SUPPLIES)

 
·
        The student must purchase a uniform (costing $11). Unless he/she has one from the previous School term (NHS).

·        Every student must rent a small gym locker for $1. (Tall lockers for class time use only, must revert back to small locker when class is over)! NO PERSONAL LOCKS!!!  P.E. DEPARTMENT FURNISHES LOCKS.

·        Every student must have a Spiral Notebook w/Pockets (for handouts).

·        Every student must write with one color of ink in Notebook (start off in blue, finish in blue).

·        Every student must have TENNIS SHOES and WHITE SOCKS for gym.

ADDITIONAL CHARGES

          $ .25 = Student can rent gym uniform.

$ .25 = Leaving lock on tall locker. Leaving gym equipment in locker

                     room or gym and leaving notebook in locker room or gym.

          $4.00 = To replace a lost lock.

AUTOMATIC DETENTION

1.     Eating food, drinking beverages in gym or classroom.

2.     Use of profanity. (Referral to Assistant Principal.)

3.     Stealing. (Referral to assistant principal.)

4.     Talking after tardy bell. (Warning first time.)

5.     Sitting on desks or heater.

6.     School rule states that a belt should be worn at all times during class sessions, and pants should be worn above the waist.

DRIVER EDUCATION

          All Grade 10 students will have an opportunity to take behind the wheel instruction doing the school year.  Students must meet the following requirements in order to receive behind the wheel instruction:

1.     Be in good standards with the school. (Attendance, grades, behavior, etc.)

2.     Have a valid learner’s permit.  Students with learner’s will be given the first opportunity for behind the wheel instruction, if they are in good standards with the school and in the classroom.  These students will be required to complete all Physical Education and Health assignments.

3.     Have permission from parent or guidance.
