Northumberland Elementary School
Academic Gifted Program
Northumberland County
identifies students eligible for the ATAG program at the end of 2nd grade.
However, students are occasionally referred in Kindergarten and 1st grade.
Northumberland Elementary School content area teachers differentiate
instruction, process, and products for the students identified as Academically
Talented and Gifted. The Gifted Resource teachers, Mrs. Newton (grades
3-5) and Ms. Christman ( K-2), provide assistance to the teachers and enrichment
opportunities.
4th and 5th grade ATAG
students are encouraged to participate in Future Problem Solving. They may
begin with FPS Scenario Writing in the 4th grade. This will be done
primarily online with the Scenario Writing coach, Mrs. Kirkwood, once they understand the
process. They will have to write one story which will be submitted for
competition. The opportunity to become part of a Future Problem Solving
team is offered in 5th grade. Students will ride the bus to the middle
school one day a week to work with Ms. Christman. They will compete four
times a year, beginning in October. Both FPS teams and FPS scenario
writers will have to research the five topics selected for that school year.
To find out more, check out the state FPS website!
The first meetings will be held in September! Dates to be announced soon!

The
Northern Neck Regional Governor's
School is open to Academically and Artistically Talented and Gifted students
in Grades 4-7. Portfolios and applications are due by April 30th.
